MY STORY

My name is Jada Respress. I am a recent graduate at Ohio Wesleyan University majoring in Communication with a focus in Broadcast Journalism. My passion for journalism is rooted in a commitment to create effective, informative content using various forms of media to build an enlightened electorate. When people make educated and informed decisions, they empower themselves; I believe that every citizen deserves to feel empowered.

From my childhood on I found a love for writing, telling stories, and connecting with others for their betterment. Over the years, I discovered political journalism allows me to combine my passion and love together through Broadcast Journalism.

I am currently a  fellow for the Carnegie-Knight News21 program in Phoenix, Arizona conducting investigative work around the aftermath of Roe v Wade completing a 12 minute mini-documentary on Maternal Health disparities within communities of color. During my collegiate career I've had the opportunity to expand my journalistic knowledge and skills in social media, print and broadcast writing, journalism research, and audio production through my internships at YR Media, WOUB Public Media, Role Model Magazine, Evergreen Podcasts, and Ohio Wesleyan University's The Transcript. In my final year of college, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Cape Town, South Africa and London, United Kingdom gaining a global perspective on the media and its impact on various countries. I am also a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) which has allowed me to gain professional skills in the field.

I created a podcast platform called JadaSpeakz that discusses topics in culture and politics that challenge the listener to reflect on their identity and impact on such topics such as body positivity, gender norms, poetry, and American policy.
